Dutches Ka'iulani Richards

My JOURNEY

ALOHA!

I'm Dutches and I am 29 years old, born and raised in Waimanalo, Hawaii & I am now an LA based photographer. Growing up, art has always been a big part of my life. I went from drawing, to dancing, to writing and anything that allowed me to be creative. Once I started High School, I then began to figure out what kind of Art I was the most interested in.

In 2010, I took a poetry class which allowed me express my feelings through writing. Later on in the school year I started taking pictures to go with my poetry. In 2011, after graduating and moving to San Jose, California for college; I then got into Photojournalism. I was able to do both of the things that I loved doing, which lead me to  do more photography work. My first Professional camera was purchased when I moved back to Hawai'i in 2012.

In my beginning stages of photography, I did photoshoots with friends and family for free to get some practice. The more I shot the better I got. I went back to school and learned Film Photography. From there I taught myself on new equipment, programs, collaborating with other photographers and my passion for photography grew! The years went by and here I am today back in California picking up where I left off.

In September of 2019, I started a business of mine called, Drawing with Light a Visual Art Collective. This group was made up of 3 other photographers and a videographer. This media team of ours allowed us to take on bigger tasks.

I love taking photos of anything that catches my eye and you'll see the variety in my photos . My goal is to always make others feel something when they see my work. My promise to you is to showcase nothing but the best.

I hope you enjoy everything that you see here. Mahalo!
